New Mexico Known by many names “The Land Of Enchantment”, “The Cactus State” and “Tierra Del Encanto.” New Mexico is also known for many things such as the Native American culture, sweet sopapias, traditions and its amazing desert landscapes.

New Mexico is full of Native American silver, pottery, weaving and pueblos. It is home to 23 sovereign Native American tribes. New Mexico has 19 distinct pueblos such as the Tous pueblos and the Acoma pueblos. Pueblos are adobe/ stone apartment like homes that the original Native Americans lived in. There’s also Navajo silver smelting, the Black pottery of the San Ildefonso. On weekends some downtowns have Native American street vendors and a plethora of museums showcasing art and history.

New Mexico is known for its spicy green and red salsa, sweet honey sopapias and Native American tacos. The New Mexican food is a blend of years of Native American, Spanish and Mexican cultures. The food is centered around corn, beans and squash known as the “three sisters”. A must go restaurant is Rancho De Chimayo, Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. They are known for their hospitality and signature dishes such as spicy guacamole, hand rolled tamales and blue corn enchiladas.

New Mexico has many traditions but one that stands out in tall fiery flames is the traditions of Zozobra. Zozobra also known as “Old Man Gloom” is a new mexico tradition that is held in Santa Fe in which crowds of people burn a 50 foot marionette to get rid of anxiety and negativity. Participators and visitors will write “glooms” which will then be placed into the marionette. The tradition started in 1924 by artist William Howard, inspired by the Mexican tradition of burning a finger of Judas.” This year’s Zozobra will be held September 4 2026.

New Mexico is known for its beautiful landscapes from colorful desserts painted in red, brown and white to tall snow covered mountains. There’s many beautiful state parks such as White Sands National park and Nabe falls. White sands in south new mexico 275 of pure white sand dunes. Fun things to do there are dune sledding, sand boarding and hiking. Nambe falls is one of the most beautiful natural falls in New Mexico. It is a 120 foot tall waterfall with mountain water flowing below. There are multiple trails in the area but one memorable trail is directly to one of the falls where you have to walk through cool rocky waters.
