Reading is very important as it’s used everywhere in life. At school, the library is where people are able to interact with the ways of literature. Students can read, write, and quietly talk about their books. I decided to see how well the library was doing at our school.
In the library, there are jigsaw puzzles, chess boards, checkers, and computers. There are also many places to sit. The library is also very clean, no trash or other garbage anywhere.
The library has a wide range of books, from the walls of the library to the center. There are autobiographies, manga, horror, career advice, and finance books. The library is able to appeal to anyone that’s interested in reading.
“I would say my graphic novels are the most checked out books. After that it would probably be fiction and romance.” Librarian Ms. Havard said.
Sachse’s Library Appreciation Week was from April 27 to May first. During that week, there were activities hosted throughout the library. Some of the activities include origami, and bingo.
“…my plan is to hide 10 little book worms, which is like little paper bookmarks throughout the library and if students find one and bring it to me without me noticing that they found one then they’ll get a little prize.” Ms. Havard said.
In the library, students are usually on their computers or chromebooks. Some students are playing chess or UNO. Few students are actually reading. Even though students aren’t actively using the library for reading, it’s still treated right by them.
“Overall, people treat it pretty well. I think that we try to keep it a nice space. They follow the rules of not eating or drinking in the library, so that really helps keep it in good shape.” Ms. Havard said.
Students aren’t the only ones welcome to the library, teachers and other staff are also allowed inside to browse or get help from the librarian.
“My job here is to support students and their reading and their research, and I like to offer a safe and comforting space for students,” Ms. Havard said.
