When teens get to the point where they are transitioning from middle school to high school, there can be a big difference when they change. When you’re in middle school, in 8th grade, you are at the “top” of the school. But when you go to high school, as a freshman, you have to start all over again.
One thing is your social structure will be very different compared to middle school. In middle school, you would know everybody and you would feel comfortable in school. When it comes to being a freshman, you wouldn’t know everyone, and how everything works. Friendships could fall out naturally which can also lead you to making new friends. Since there are always new people you will be meeting. You can make promises that you and your friend group will stay friends forever but that is not always the case. This happens to a lot of people and it is the journey to high school.
Another thing that can be different is that there can be the work load you’ll have. When you get into high school, you can start to reminisce about middle school work. But this can also depend on how your school organizes their periods. You will see a big difference in middle school and high school workloads. These are like, class assignments and expectations, or different class levels like honors and on level.
One other thing is the school environment and size. High school is so much bigger than middle school. In high school, a bunch of kids from different middle schools come together and go to one school in an area. This can be a little overwhelming for some new students compared to different schools. On US News and World report, it is said that about 5,000+ students are enrolled in Allen High School.
One last thing is academic accountability. In middle school, you don’t need to earn specific credits to pass the grade level. If you failed a core class like math or history, you would have to take either summer school or an extra block of the subject again. In high school, if you don’t pass a certain class, you will have to redo the class or the grade level depending on what subject it is.
It can be very overwhelming during the summer before high school, but once you get used to it you can definitely get the hang of it. Making memories is very essential in high school and hitting milestones. If you take accountability for your class work and don’t be late on assignments and before you can know it, you will be on your last day of high school.
