Malala Yousafzai, Marie Curie, Rosa parks, Harriet Tubaman those are just a few of the strong women who helped change history forever.
Women’s history month is the month of March to celebrate the women of the world and the contributions they have made in world history, culture and society. The celebration of women history month started in 1978 in California and was officially recognized in 1987. Women’s history month can be celebrated by supporting women owned businesses, attending local events, educating yourself on women’s contributions or highlighting the brave, strong women who have changed history like I am.

Malala Yousafzai born July 12, 1997 in Mangora Pakistan and is a Pakistani education activist. In 2008 the Taliban prohibited girls from going to school this caused her to become more passionate about education and vocalized girls rights to go to school as young as 11. She continued to try to go to school and on October 9 2012 a Taliban member boarded her school bus and shot Malala in the face. She recovered from the injury and continued to speak out on the importance of girls’ education and has written books and done seminars.

Rosa Parks born February 4 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama was a black American civil rights activist. Back in the 50s people of color were segregated, discriminated against had to go to schools for people of color , were not allowed into establishments and had to sit at the back of the bus, on December 1, 1955 Rosa parks refused to sit at the back and sat at the front of the bus, she was arrested which sparked the major Montgomery bus boycott and pushed the civil rights movement forward.

Marie Curie born November 7, 1867 in Warsaw Poland was a Polish- French physicist and chemist. She couldn’t attend any universities in Poland so she got her education from an underground educational enterprise called the “Flying University” She discovered the elements plutonium and radium and coins with the word “radioactivity” she was the first person ever to win two noble peace prizes.
These are only a few of the women who have changed the world. It is important to remember and appreciate the women in our lives and around us as your mother, sister or cousin can make a change in the world.
