Energy drinks can be seen everywhere. From schools, to work, and in fridges. With different types of brands like Alani, Monster, and red bull. It is studied that one-third of teens from 12 to 17 drink energy drinks regularly. You would see in the school mornings with girls with their Alanis. But something we have to think about is, does energy drinks everyday actually have an impact on us other than giving you energy to get through the mornings?
According to students at Sachse High school, energy drinks can tend to give difficulties like tachycardia.“Alanis makes my heart pound sometimes randomly,” said Jayla, a freshman at Sachse High school. Not only can heart issues can occur, but also high blood pressure can rise. This can become a long term problem later on in life.
There can also be neurological problems tied to this too. During interviews, a sophomore at Sachse Highschool, Jordyn Harris, said that when he stopped drinking monsters, that it helped his anxiousness go away. Energy drinks can have big effects mentally too. Another example can be like insomnia. “I have trouble sleeping… I sleep at like 1 or 2am” stated Nhu, a freshman. Because of the high amounts of caffeine energy drinks have inside, it prevents teens from sleeping at night. This can lead to a really messed up sleep schedule leading to getting tired during the day. But then you would drink more in the morning creating a cycle that can be really hard to break.
One last thing is that it can be very addictive because of the high amount of caffeine and excessive sugars. This can lead to high consumption of the drinks that can lead to obesity and dental cavity. “If I stopped drinking, It would make my whole day sad,” said Gabriela, a freshman at Sachse High school. These drinks can lead to high consumption of sugars and caffeine. This can lead to dizziness, headaches, and dehydration when there is a day without energy drinks. “If I stopped, my head would hurt so much,” said Jayla. Having these drinks can very much affect your diet and can give you problems.
Energy drinks can look really good and be trendy, but you also have to think about your health. They might have some benefits like getting energy and tasting good. But the problem is that drinking for energy can mess up your sleep schedule and could mean that you don’t sleep at night. This can be really bad for your mind, because you aren’t getting your brain to rest. Also being tasty could mean that it has a lot of ingredients that can be really bad for you. Stopping habits can be hard but it can be really good in the long run.
