Garland ISD Student Nutrition Services (SNS) awarded the Sachse cafeteria staff the “Silver Tong” award for the third year in a row.

“It makes me proud that we’ve consecutively won this award,” cafeteria staff manager Cindy Diaz said.  “It is always good to know that you not only have a good system but a good staff.”

The cafeterias are judged on customer service, food presentation, food quality, safety, sanitation and administration.

“These criteria include things like increasing student participation, health inspection scores, lowering food cost and attendance,” SNS Operations Supervisor Becky Blake said.

If a campus is nominated, SNS operations supervisors will visit in person and “grade” the school to determine if the school qualifies for a “Golden Spatula” or “Silver Tong” award.

“It is quite an accomplishment to receive either,” Blake said.

Student Nutrition Services began awarding this recognition three years ago and Sachse competes against the other high schools in the district.

“I feel like everything we do here at Sachse is at a high level,” Principal Shae Creel said.  “I am proud of the system our lunch staff has.”
