Mustangs crush the Owls 49-0

The varsity Mustangs racked up another district win against the Garland Owls with a 49-0 blowout Friday, Oct. 5, at Williams Stadium with a total of 496 yards compared to the Owls’ 75 yards.  

The first half of the game was was a shutout with 3 touchdowns in the first quarter and three touchdowns in the second quarter.  The final Mustang touchdown came in the fourth quarter.

The surprise of the evening was senior wide receiver Derrick Rose stepping in as quarterback for Anthony Beltran. He threw three touchdown passes and completed one rushing touchdown. At the end of the night, Rose had 180 passing yards and 107 rushing yards.

“Feels great, always knew I would come back to play quarterback,” Rose said. “Until Anthony Beltran comes back, I’m just going to keep doing what I do–win games.”

The Mustang defense held back the Owl’s offense with 26 tackles over the course of the evening.

Coming off a bye week, the Mustangs have an overall record of 3-3 headed into the game with North Garland Thursday night.
