The Mustangs boys basketball season is underway with the team starting 5-8 so far in non district play tournament play.

The most recent game for the Mustangs was a victory over Poteet 53-45.The Mustangs built a lead early in the first quarter coming off of steals by sophomore Trae Brown and junior RJ Chatman.

The Mustangs look to rebuild off a promising  20-21 season.

Last year, the Mustangs finished  fourth in district, drew Tyler Legacy in the first round of the playoffs and dominated that one 74-67.

In the second round,  the Mustangs faced Duncanville, the number one ranked team in the state and sixth nationally, but they fell short 61-51 to the eventual state champions.

Sachse lost 7 seniors from that team and will have to find new pieces to run the offense and build around.

“It’s definitely a completely different team and look,” senior Andrew Dunnam said. “Those seven guys last year were key to us winning a playoff game and having a great year, but we have four seniors on this team, and we hope to compete in district and go further this year.”

District play starts Tuesday, Dec. 21 with a matchup against North Garland.
