It’s no surprise the Lady Mustangs head basketball coach Donna McCullough celebrated her 500th career win after the team defeated Lewisville on Nov. 30.

“It was a surprise for me. I don’t really keep up with the number,” McCullough said. “It’s just really about the kids and the program and making sure they have a good experience throughout the program.”

McCullough played basketball all through high school and continued at the University of Arkansas where she played power forward.

“College ball really taught me a lot in life,” McCullough said.

Before coming to Sachse in 2005, she coached at Garland High School for 11 years. She has also coached in Plano, Texarkana and in Arkansas.

McCullough has produced winning seasons with her teams over the years and was also inducted into the GISD Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

The Lady Mustangs opened district play Friday, Dec. 10 with a 60-11 win over Lakeview Centennial. With quite a few returning players and new talent, the team is 8-6 overall.

“Our main goal of course is to win district and head into the playoffs strong,” McCullough said.
