The Mustangs continued district play with a much anticipated matchup with the undefeated Garland Owls.

Both teams were 3-0 in district heading into the game that some were calling a midseason district championship.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 14-6 lead, but the Owls answered with 22 straight points in the second quarter which ultimately put the game out of reach for the Mustangs. The game ended with a score of 54-41, and the Owls in sole possession of first place in district.

“We had a good rhythm in the first quarter,“ quarterback senior Alex Orji said. “We had some turnovers in the second quarter, and they started getting more pressure. Momentum definitely swung in their favor.”

The defense for the Mustangs continued to struggle allowing Garland quarterback senior Cergio Perez to throw for 323 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Owls receiver Jordan Hudson tallied 134 yards and 4 touchdowns as Sachse had no answer for the Owls air attack.

“We were able to keep them in check early,” defensive back senior Kevin Courtney said. “They used the screen game really effectively in the second half. We had trouble tackling in the open field, and we got beat”

The Mustangs are 3-1 in district play with three games left to play against South Garland, Wylie and Naaman Forest.
