The Lady Mustangs fell to Bryan High School two games to one in the second round of the playoffs. After taking a commanding lead 12-4 in the first game, they had a tough 9-0 defeat in game two. The decisive game three ended in a narrow 5-4 win for Bryan closing the Lady Mustangs’ season.

“It was a heartbreaking way to go out,” freshman Rylie Clem said. “After dominating game one, we kinda’ got punched in the mouth, and just couldn’t bounce back in game three.”

In the first round, they had a quick two game sweep over Tyler Legacy, 9-0 and 6-2.

The ace pitcher for the team this year was junior Kayla Olthouse.  She pitched a dominant shutout in game one of the playoffs, and overall on the year had more than 1000 innings pitched and held a 2.67 ERA.

Olthouse also struckout 106 batters on the year, only walking 18. At the plate she posted an impressive .396 batting average with 7 home runs finishing second on the team in that category.

“I’m sad to see our season come to an end like this,” Olthouse said. ”We dominated all year long. I felt we had a good shot at it after going up 1-0 in the series, but it didn’t go the way we wanted. We just fell short, but I’m proud of our girls and the way we battled all year long.”

Batting was led this year by District MVP junior Madison McClarity who had a .677 batting average with 12 home runs and 78 RBIs. These numbers are jaw dropping for the junior who also posted a 2.39 ERA on the mound and helped lead the Lady Mustangs all year long.

“It was a really fun season,” McClarity said. “ I was locked in from the jump, and I’m just glad I could help us get as far as we did. It meant a lot to get voted MVP. I’m happy I got recognition from the district and can’t wait to get back at it next year.”

The Lady Mustangs finished the season with an overall record of 23-9-1 and 13-1 in district play with their only loss against Wylie. The team is in good shape with lots of starters returning for another try in 2022.
