Throughout the football season the Mustangs faced many challenges starting with a recovery from a three game slump of pre-district games. Once district play began, they overcame each opponent ending the season undefeated in district.

One of the most anticipated games against Rowlett was a satisfying end to district play.

The Mustangs destroyed the Eagles 48-0 to capture the coveted Hammer Bowl trophy and the preferred play-off bracket against Plano East.

“They are ‘Letdown Nation,’ so we saw the win coming,” wide receiver Charles Washington said. “I am very happy with the win. I wish Rowlett the best of luck going into next season.”

The Hammer Bowl has been an epic game between the Sachse Mustangs and the Rowlett Eagles since the opening of SHS in 2004. The stands are always packed to see these two rivals face off, and the battle of students sections and half-time performances are just as exciting as the game itself.

During the game the Mustangs had an amazing defense and offense. The defense piled up a total of 56 tackles, and the offense ended up with 403 yards rushing.

“You know, it’s games like this that makes me proud to be a mustang,” running back Torey Washington said.

Throughout the game, the energy from the crowds was amazing. For each touchdown scored and big play made, there was a stampede of excitement from the away side.

“The game was shocking to say at the least,” senior Jaida Crowley said. “A win like that is something I’m happy I could see live.”

Starting in 2004, Rowlett lead the rivalry with a 10-5 record.  Since 2012, Sachse has become a feared competitor. This was the fourth straight win against the Eagles.

“We were expected to beat Rowlett but not as bad as 48-0,” lineman Luke Parson said.  “This big rivalry win was a highlight of my senior year season.”

From three straight losses to seven straight wins the Mustangs beat the odds and headed for the playoffs defeating Plano East 35-25.

The season ended against the  Midway Panthers with a 56-28 defeat.
