The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been one of the most complicated, painful struggles in modern
history. For decades, the occupation of Gaza has kept the world’s attention focused on this region, but
the situation is far from simple. One of the factors making it even harder to understand is the role of
propaganda. Both Israeli and Palestinian media use it as a tool to sway public opinion and gather
international support. Research from the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies reveals that the way stories are
told often changes based on what message media outlets want to send. Depending on the perspective,
one side may be depicted as the victim, while the other is cast as the aggressor (Mikhael). This
manipulation isn’t just about shaping how we feel, it plays a huge role in international politics and even
influences the decisions of governments. A study from the Journal of Middle Eastern Politics and
Policy shows that biased media coverage of Gaza usually makes the situation worse, not better (Hassan
34). Propaganda has existed for centuries, but its constant use over the years has only deepened the
divisions and made peace feel even more unattainable. Former President Jimmy Carter once said,
“Peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice.
Looking to the future, it’s hard to see how propaganda will play a smaller role in the Gaza conflict. In
fact, it’s likely to become even more intense as technology evolves. Social media algorithms are getting
better at showing people exactly what they want to see, even if that means pushing biased or misleading
content. This is a huge problem because it creates “echo chambers,” where people only hear opinions
they already agree with and never get challenged to think differently. . As technology advances, the
struggle for truth will only get harder. But if more people demand fairness and transparency, we may
one day break the cycle of misinformation and hatred. Peace isn’t just about stopping bombs or
building borders. As Jimmy Carter said, it’s about creating real justice and that begins with telling the
truth.
