Background: smile is about Dr. rose carter witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient a patient after that she starts to experience frightening   occurrences that she can’t explain.as an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, ross must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her new reality.it was released september 30th 2022, smiles director was parker finn and had a budget of 17 million dollars and the movie is 115 minutes long.

Plot:The movie starts off with a young girl named Rose watching her mother slowly pass away in her room. Then it fast forwards to when Rose is now an adult who works as a psychiatrist at a mental hospital, right before Rose is about to clock out a patient named Laura comes out who is very distressed from just watching her professor kill himself brutally. Laura insists she’s being followed by an entity that nobody else can see and says that it can take the shape of everyone she knows and has a creepy smile

. Right as Rose turns around to call for extra help, Laura starts smiling and kills herself. Rose is terrified and decides it’s time to go home. But when she gets home she sees Laura’s figure standing in the corner of her house until she turns on the lights.roses finance Trevor tells her she’s just hallucinating from being stressed out.

The next day at work Rose asks for a case report of the professor that Laura watched kill himself and her ex boyfriend Joel tries to help out with the case. When Rose looks out her window at work she swears that she sees Laura’s figure standing below her. Then Rose walks past one of her harmless patients named Carl and he has a creepy smile on his face when she goes into the room he keeps telling Rose she’s going to pass away that day causing her to react hysterically to him. After she calls in for help the nurse comes in and tells her that he had just been lying down on the bed the whole time and she was hallucinating everything. Her boss gives her some days off because they think she’s going crazy from stress.

 But when she gets home her house alarm goes off so she gets a call from security and they tell her to look behind her. After looking behind her she realizes that she’s not even holding the phone and then she gets a call from security again realizing that she hallucinated everything before then. Rose then notices that her cat mustache is missing. Rose decides to listen to the audio of the interview she had with Laura again in search of answers and hears audio of Laura whispering Rose’s name which she had not done before and then a horrifying figure jump scares Rose at home.

 Rose attends her nephew’s birthday party but when he unwraps her gift to him it ends up being her cat moustache now dead inside of the box. Rose’s sister and her family are terrified of Rose and Rose sees one of the guests smiling creepily in the corner causing Rose to fall and go to the er. When Rose gets home she does more research on the professor that killed himself in front of Laura and finds his wife.

 She goes to his wife’s house pretending to be a reporter and she tells him that her husband had been drawing creepy faces and acting really weird before he passed away and he witnessed another person killing themselves in front of him right before he died. The wife finds out that Rose is lying about being a reporter and kicks her out of the house. Rose begs her ex Joel to look up the woman in his police database since he works with them and he finds a chain of people witnessing other people killing themselves before doing it to themselves and even finding a woman smiling in the video footage just like Rose says she sees people smiling. 

Rose comes home to find her fiance and her therapist sitting on the couch telling her that they think she’s mentally unwell and hallucinating everything. Rose goes to her sister Holly’s house and they fight about their traumatic childhood since Rose and her had their mom pass away like in the beginning of the movie. When Rose goes back to her car the entity disguises itself as Holly and scares Rose by making her face turn upside down and smiles at her. 

Meanwhile Joel has found 20 cases of people killing themselves after witnessing someone else do it but also finds a hiccup in the chain where someone actually lived. So they visit the man in prison to get some answers. The man’s name is robert and he’s in there for murdering someone and he tells rose that the only way to stop the curse is by killing someone in front of someone else, rob them freaks out on rose realizing that rose has the entity and tells her to get out.

 Rose goes home and unexpectedly has her therapist over because her therapist wanted to check up on her. While her therapist is there, Rose gets a call from her therapist realizing that the person in front of her is not her therapist. The entity smiles at Rose and tells her that her time is running out as it chases her and Rose escapes. Rose then goes back to the hospital and enters Carl’s room, Rose then attacks Carl with the weapon in hopes of killing him in front of her boss so that the curse can be taken off of her back but as Carl starts to smile while she does so. She then wakes up in the hospital parking lot realizing it was all just a hallucination.

 Rose then drives to her abonded childhood home because she believes the only way to beat the curse is by isolating herself so that nobody can witness her do anything. She sees a flashback of her mom killing herself revealing that Rose purposely didn’t get help for her mom to save her life because she resented her. Her mom then warps into a monstrous tall version of herself and then tries to attack rose. Rose then leaves the house as she watches it ignite and turn to dust. She goes to her ex Joel house in order to tell him that she finally beat the curse but then he starts smiling revealing that the curse is still with her.

 flashback to reality it shows that rose had hallucinated everything about the house and Joel arrives at the house to check on rose. Inside, Rose sees the entity disguised as her monstrous version of her mom as it enters through roses mouth and goes inside. Joel goes inside to find Rose drenching herself in liquid that can ignite and then proceeds to ignite the house along with herself as Joel watches. The end 

My review: I absolutely love smile . I know a lot of people don’t like this movie but I absolutely love smile. It’s such a great concept of having a bunch of people just smiling and only one person can see the people smiling and i love how the movie explores the nature of trauma and how it can haunt people i think it’s a really good message and love how the movie does it in the form of people smiling and only one person can see the people smiling i also love how the movie shows the message of don’t judge people until you walked in their shoes because no one else can see the people smiling and because of that everyone around the main character thinks she is crazy even though they have no idea what’s she’s going through. This is my review of the movie smile
