Have you ever really wanted to go to a concert but just couldn’t make the presale, just to find that $30 nosebleeds are now reaching to $150 because of the resales? In today’s media world, ticket resale is so normalized, and it needs to be handled.
The term resell in the concert industry is when a ticketing website (such as Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, and any other partnered website) allows you to buy a ticket and gives you the option to resell the ticket to make the price even higher for the buyer just so they can get some extra dollars.
Just a few days ago,me and my dad tried to snag some tickets to go see Tate McRae at the Toyota Center in Houston,Texas. We signed up for the presale and got in but the resellers already got their hands onto the 32.50$ nosebleeds we wanted and turned them into 94$ a piece.
I also had this issue back in July of last year, where my mom spent almost 300$ just for us to have nosebleeds seats at a Sabrina Carpenter concert. These were resold as well.
Despite the price skyrocketing when resellers get their hands on them, do they not open their eyes to the fees most ticket websites give us? When my dad just checked to see the total, it was an extra 60$ with fees and tax. This is insane, and reselling needs to be stopped.
Me and my close friend Eleanor and I had a deep discussion about whether or not we agreed on the concept of reselling. She agrees that reselling is ridiculous and empties out people’s pockets faster than the blink of an eye.
Ticketing websites need to reconsider allowing reselling when hosting a concert sale. It is an unnecessary thing that they allow, which limits the availability of affordable tickets, even in the nosebleeds. For people like me, who love concerts, I think more ticketing sites should be aware of what the buyers are getting themselves into.
