The Notebook is a romantic drama film directed by Nick Cassavetes, and the story alternates between two timelines: the passionate romance of a young couple in the 1940s and an elderly man reading their story to an elderly woman who has lost her memory in a nursing home. The film starts with Ryan Gosling as Noah Calhoun and Rachel McAdams as Allie Hamilton, who fall deeply in love and are from two different social classes. Noah is a country boy, and Allie is a city girl, and they both meet the night of the carnival. At first, Allie didn’t want to go out with Noah when she first met him that night, but then he convinces Allie to go out with him, and from there, they both fall in love with each other. As their love keeps on blooming, they start having problems that make them fall apart, primarily due to Allie´s parents disliking their relationship. Allie then moves away and meets another man, therefore getting engaged, and she seems to leave Noah in the past.
However, Noah never forgot about Allie and spent years trying to restore an old plantation home, hoping Allie would come back. Nevertheless, while Noah was spending his years trying to restore the house, he was also sending letters to Allie and telling her about his feelings and how much he regrets splitting ways with her. However, Allie never wrote back to Noah. Allie then decided to take a vacation back to Seabrook before she got married, and while she was at Seabrook, she saw a newspaper article about Noah restoring the old plantation home, which made her go visit the plantation home. When she and Noah meet and have their emotional reunion in which they have conversations about the summer and their feelings for each other, this then leads to the famous part where Noah declares his love to Allie under the rain, and it then captures their emotions and their deep, strong connection. However, Allie is still engaged to the man she met when she moved. She decides that she does not want to marry that man and wants to stay with Noah. Lastly, the movie goes back to the elderly people, and it shows that the elderly man turns out to be Noah and the elderly woman is Allie, and Noah was trying to remind Allie who he was. At the end of the movie, it shows Allie in her last moments before she passes away.
I would strongly recommend watching this movie because it reflects on first love and whenever you have your first love, it’s like losing the most important person in your life. The movie also shows how much one person can love you and they’ll never let go of you. It also represents how many sacrifices you can go through with them and still care and love them.
