Recently, on January 31st, 2025, one of my favorite musical artists, the Weeknd (real name of Abel Makkonen Tesfaye), dropped a new album named Hurry Up Tomorrow. This album consists of 22 songs, two previously released as singles and several previously teased.
Hurry Up Tomorrow is the sixth studio album released by the Weeknd and is said to be his last album as ‘the Weeknd.’ He plans on retiring his stage name after this album but will still release music, just not under his well-known stage name. “It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for,” he spoke out. Thankfully, this isn’t the end of his musical career altogether.
I believe that the Weeknd’s new album is very solid, and the quality throughout all the songs was very consistent and excellent. Some of the lyrics are emotional and personal, and the vocals did not disappoint. A few of my favorite features on this album are Travis Scott on Reflections Laughing, Playboi Carti on Timeless, and Lana Del Rey on The Abyss. The features, bass, and variety of synths on the songs tie the album together, at least for me.
I’ve seen several reviews of Hurry Up Tomorrow, and there have been some opinions that the songs aren’t catchy, they don’t have enough energy, or the album is too long. I agree that it possibly could have been shorter, but the songs, in my opinion, definitely have the energy and vibe that I like to listen to.
If I had to pick my top five favorite songs off Hurry Up Tomorrow, I would choose Wake Me Up, Cry For Me, Baptized in Fear, Reflections Laughing, and The Abyss. The vocals, synths, and the atmosphere surrounding those songs personally make them more enjoyable to listen to and sing along with. In my opinion, none of the other songs are bad enough to be considered my least favorite.
Overall, the Hurry Up Tomorrow album by the Weeknd is a high-quality R&B album with lots of synths that is considered his final farewell from the famous Weeknd persona. If you are interested in the Weeknd or just want to listen to an elegant, touching new album, I would recommend listening to Hurry Up Tomorrow.
