Ever wondering what electives you should try out next year? Here are three classes I took my freshman year that put a little more fun and activity in my school year here at Sachse. In 8th grade, Introduction to Culinary Arts was a class I was eyeing with a couple of my friends. I decided to sign up for it and planned to take two semesters during my freshman year. This class was very fun as we learned how to cook and got more in-depth with the whole idea of cooking. We even did food labs where we cooked, and that made this class super fun. It is also a super easy class. With my current teacher, Mrs Siratt, she makes the class super fun and easy. As said, culinary arts should be in your to take electives for the 2025-2026 school year!
Along with taking Culinary, you can even join GRTC the following year for the culinary arts category and work with professionals.
Another class I think everyone should at least try is journalism or photojournalism. I took both my freshman years in a semester due to being in a mixed class. This class improved my photography skills and especially my news writing skills. As of the spring semester of 2025, I am now privileged to be a part of the Sachse Stampede! So, if you are interested in sharing articles on topics just like I am right now, you should join Journalism. Even photojournalism, too! I took some of it, like I said, from being a mixed class, and I enjoyed doing those projects and assignments as well.
Lastly, I strongly recommend taking AVID. It prepares you for college and teaches you basic organization skills and emotional learning. It’s a slow-paced and easy class, which can sound like paradise to some. My favorite thing about AVID is the projects and presentations we take part in. It may seem scary, but being in AVID has pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’ve also met so many friends this year due to collaborative work in AVID.
This is why I strongly recommend that anyone looking for a new class to try out thinks about taking either Avid, culinary, or journalism/photojournalism.
