Ericdoa’s album – Why Suffer For Us? It was released on November 28th, 2024. This album takes a playful role in the alternative/indie pop genre. This isn’t just any other alternative pop album. Ericdoa’s sound is unique to himself. Even without the lyrics, you can tell by only the instrumental who made the song. His production fits perfectly with his voice, fitting like a puzzle piece.
Track 1 – song for when the bar closes
The song starts with a sample that lays the groundwork for the rest of the song – the song later builds up to sound complete, not only is the song rather catchy. However, it also sounds very well produced. The background lyrics also compliment Eric perfectly.
Track 2 – do ya?
This track starts with a sweet, uplifting beat. The drums in the background add to this song amazingly. To me, this song sounds like it’d be a good song to play on the aux for a sunset drive around town. The guitar in the background also makes the song sound so much more different and unique than other pop songs, really adding that vibe to it that makes you bop your head to the beat.
Track 3 – search & destroy
For track 3, I’d say that it’s pretty similar to the first song – when the bar closes, this song starts with a sample that builds on throughout the song. However, this is completely removed later in the song, and instead, it feels a bit more “electronic” than usual. This song sounds like something that would be played at a normal house party.
Track 4 – Throw it up (ft. glaive)
This track starts with a melodic piano, and another one of my favorite artists, Glave, is featured on this song. Glaive starts the song off with an auto-tune melody, singing along with the piano. The electronic rise that follows soon after makes the song feel like you’re at a rave. The repetition of the phrase “Throw it up” makes the song feel energizing and stimulating.
Track 5 – one for the troops
This track starts with a repeating guitar riff and an electronic piano combined alongside it. Eric’s voice later joins in, singing with these instruments, but unlike the other songs, this track feels slower compared to the ones played before. This gives the song a more moody feel.
(Final track) Track 6 – point blank
The intro to this track starts with a smooth and slow guitar. The intro, however, is slightly longer compared to the ones before. This song takes a melodic tone to end the album, giving a goodbye message to the audience; it gives off a heart-to-heart feeling.
Final Review: This album is an emotional rollercoaster, from energetic & uplifting to moody & emotional. All of these songs were produced beautifully with the audience in mind. This album personally felt like it had a lot of repetitive factors, but Ericdoa pulled it off perfectly. The electricity of the first 4 tracks made me feel uplifted and made me want to get up out of my chair and move. However, this album is rather short, coming in at a total of 14 minutes. These tracks, when listened to in order, combine a sweet and sour experience. I would give this album an 8.5/10. The last two songs were not my favorite as they were more moody than electronic. But to some, these last two tracks would be one of their favorites – after all, music is subjective.
