How To Start A Business

Starting a business can be tricky, but even more of a burden when you are a teenager. Here are some helpful tips to guide you through your business journey.

For starters, being a young entrepreneur has its pros. Teens likely have more free time than most adults, so why not use it wisely? To better understand your time, you have to plan.

Plan

A business will take up a good chunk of your time, so plan efficiently and make room for working. As a teen, school can take much of your time, so it is best to always be ahead of your work. Plan what product(s) you will be selling. Choose what you are passionate about or can produce consistently/efficiently. This can include art, tutoring, babysitting, etc.. I also recommend choosing something that doesn’t cost so much upfront.

Funding

With the important part of your business planned, you need to figure out what you will be paying for upfront. Will your parents help you financially? Maybe you have money saved to use. Seek help from your parents or an adult to help you get set up.

Set-up

Find out a reasonable price to charge for your product. Research competitors’ pricing and offer better. You can find assistance from a guardian or research. Set up a bank account or someplace you can keep your profit; you may need your parents to open one up for you.

Create social media accounts/ online shops to market your product. Some have age restrictions, so watch out for that.

Take action

Market and sell your product. Engage with an online community or in person by posting consistently, creating flyers, or spreading the word of mouth to make your business known.

 Track and Record

Keep track of which products are selling more than others, as well as record your income and expenses.

You will run into problems, but nothing that cannot be fixed. Ask for help, research solutions, and don’t be afraid to start being an entrepreneur!
