Fallout, set in an apocalyptic world where everything wants to kill you and it’s difficult to trust anything, has gotten a lot of attention. This franchise is owned by Todd Howard and his company, Bethesda Game Studios, and developed by Black Isle Studios, Interplay Entertainment, and the Omni Group. As of April 11th, Bethesda Game Studios has had this marvelous game franchise released into a show starring Ella Purnell as Lucy Maclean, Walton Goggins as The Ghoul, and Aaron Clifton Moten as Maximus.
The show Fallout is a show with four different viewpoints. The world has fallen into disrepair after a nuclear war, and everything on the surface is infected with radiation, including the people. On the surface, everyone is cut throat, while the vault dwellers are shielded from the radiation and murder. The first viewpoint you get is from Lucy Maclean and her bubbly self; then you get Maximus, who is born on the surface, and his edgy personality. Then you are shown the ghoul’s perspective of everything and how his actions are somewhat justified. The final view point is Norm, Lucy’s brother, who will be beginning to piece everything together about what is really going on within the vaults.
The main part of the story takes place in 2077, just like in Fallout 4, but goes back to the 1950s when doing flashbacks for one of the main character’s backstories. In the beginning, around the 1950s, you see how the world was before it broke out into chaos. Then it pans to 219 years later, introducing the characters in the first episode. The characters all have something that they are dealing with and very different ways of executing their missions. The show so far only seems to be based off of Fallout 4 but adds a few elements of the other games in the franchise.
Overall, I’d say this show is pretty good. The characters are great, and the plot always seems to thicken in every episode. It’s like the show is saying, “Please, just watch one more episode. Just one more!” The suspense and tension are so thick in this show that it will have you on the edge of your seat. Since the day that it was released on Amazon Prime Video, everyone has been wanting season two. This show is so good, even if there is a minor detail that they have gotten wrong.
Even as a good show, there are some bits of it that I and others have problems with. First of all, the power armor that they have in the show has an ability for the knights to fly, which in the game you can’t do. In the game, the power armor is only a hunk of metal that prevents you from fall damage and reduces damage from attacks. That is it. So the fact that they put little rocket boosters into the armor in the show Fallout is one of my quibbles with the show. The other part is actually from someone else who has been recently watching the show. They say that it’s quite slow and drags out for an episode. There isn’t much about the surface that they find interesting since Norm now has the spotlight in part of the show. Now they just want to know more about the vault. I don’t necessarily mind if they play it out longer.
Over all, this show is really good and has a great way of seeing everybody’s perspective on this crazy world. I highly recommend it, especially if you are either a Fallout fan or a fan of anything apocalyptic. This show gets a 9 out of 10 from me. Great show and great game—a simply well-done project.
