In the last decade we have seen a massive boom in the horror film industry; some people like gore, psychological thrillers, etc. But imagine a horror film that has a satirical twist to it.
I have recently watched the A24 film “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” directed by Halina Rejin.
“Bodies Bodies Bodies” is a distinct entry in the horror genre, blending satire with elements of mystery and suspense. The film provides a fresh perspective through its mix of dark comedy and social commentary. The movie is about a group of wealthy young people in their early twenties having a hurricane party at one of the members of the friend group house. They decide to play a game called “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” which is a twist on the traditional party game “Werewolf” or “Mafia.” As the night progresses, tensions rise, and the game turns deadly when real bodies start pulling up. So now the group has to find out who the killer is.
The film examines the culture of today’s youth, particularly their reliance on technology and social media, which serve as both a weapon and a survival tool in the story. It also explores the dynamics of privileged relationships, groupthink, and the ways individuals navigate fear and suspicion in a crisis. If you want an unserious, funny, quick watch, I would recommend this! Just FYI, if you are expecting a big twist at the end, I would say bring down your expectations for that part.
