No Way Up is a movie where characters from different backgrounds are thrown together when a bird strike causes their plane to crash into the Pacific Ocean. The survivors decide to leave the aircraft and swim to the surface.
I love thriller and horror movies, and this just wasn’t it. The actors were amazing, but the storyline wasn’t good. They could’ve made the movie so realistic, but they chose to make it where the shark was after them. After watching this, I’m so disappointed because sharks don’t do the things that this movie portrays them to do, and it’s so unrealistic on many levels. A lot of scenes don’t even make sense. I’m upset, and this is a waste of time, so don’t even waste your time. Throughout the entire movie, in almost every scene, some things were so unnecessary and fake, especially at the end, like no wonder the governor’s daughter survived. This movie is full of nonsense and idiotic opinions. Don’t waste your time or money.
It’s a cheap and boring movie with scenes that don’t make sense. First of all, the characters are extremely repulsive. That’s why you can’t feel sad or excited for anyone. With a good script, director, and cast, it would likely be an extremely tense movie. The man managed to make the audience experience tension and despair throughout the movie by leaving only a married couple in the middle of the ocean. (See: Open Water)
Additionally, to the previously mentioned remarks about the film “No Way Up,” it’s worth noting another aspect that causes bewilderment and irritation: heart-wrenching dialogues at the most critical moments. Characters, finding themselves in extreme conditions, inexplicably begin to share personal memories and stories from childhood, which are utterly inappropriate in the given situation. These inserts, presumably intended to deeply reveal characters and add emotional coloring, look artificial and are a distraction from the main action. Instead of uniting the viewer and the characters, these moments break the internal dynamics of the plot and emphasize the lack of logic in the behavior of the heroes, who should have focused all their efforts on survival, not on sharing personal stories.
These moments question the priorities of the scriptwriters and director, making the cinematic work less convincing and reducing its emotional resonance with the audience. Overall, despite the ambitiousness of the project and the strive for innovation in the survival genre, “No Way Up” leaves the viewer with a feeling of disappointment due to inconsistencies in the plot and the unconvincing nature of the characters.
Absolutely bad acting, bad plot, and everything in between. It feels unfinished, and all the action happened at the beginning of the movie. All the moments in the movie were predictable and had no plot twists at all. Don’t waste your time watching this movie. If you like sharks, just watch The Meg instead. At least they have much better characters and a decent storyline. Overall, I would give this movie a 4/10.
