As a former journalist myself, I am excited to have the opportunity to teach our Journalism class, and this semester have a staff of young writers who will be bringing their unique view on the school, life, and “surviving” the halls of SHS.
The Fall semester of Journalism is filled with a lot of writing – learning the different styles and getting comfortable with writing up to 2 pages based on information that is given. We focus on the structure and elements of a story – a very English Class 2.0 kind of class, as I usually tell the students.
All that prepares the students for the Spring semester where you will be reading their own writing, written after their own research and interviews. These topics are ones they find interesting and ones that impact the school or reflect what our student body is interested in. Of course, there are always some stories we don’t know about, and that come to us – and those are always special for me to watch as students come to our Newspaper staff and give them interesting things to write about.
I hope our Sachse students and staff will enjoy the stories and comment their thoughts and help continue to expand the coverage so our staff can really reflect the Sachse Spirit and highlight students who exhibit the Mustang Way.
