Season ends for cross country
December 7, 2018
Both the boys and girls cross country teams ended the season with success.
The girls varsity and JV teams clinched the District 10-6A first place spot at the district meet on Oct. 11, at Audubon Park. The lady mustangs placed first with a score of 33 in the 5,000 meter run.
“Well for one, I am very proud of our varsity girls winning district,” coach Kasey Laughery said. “They put in a lot of hard work and dedication for that district trophy.”
The varsity and JV boys also had an exceptional performance, securing second place out of eight spots at the district meet which also qualified the varsity team for the Class 6A Region II meet.
“I am also very proud of our varsity boys being runner-up,” Laughery said. “The team they lost to, the Wylie Pirates, made it to state. Being able to compete with such stiff opposition goes to show that we have much potential to compete on a higher level.”
The teams competed in the three mile run on Oct. 22, at the Class 6A Region II meet at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie. The boys placed 24th with a score of 729, and the girls placed 21st with a score of 606 points.
Although the season has ended for the teams, practice does not end for the athletes.
“With the conclusion of this season we have continued to workout by running miles and also lifting weights,” Laughery said. “We will also be running for track when it starts back up this spring.”
