The boys varsity soccer team opened up district play against the Wylie Pirates on Tuesday falling short in a crazy overtime game.

The score was 0-0 heading into overtime, and it was still 0-0 after two overtime periods. That sent them into penalty kicks, and Wylie defeated Sachse 4-3.

The 3 goals scored by Sachse were from senior JoJo Adoboe, senior Derick Ramirez and junior Zebastian Rios.

“The boys played a great game,” head coach Jacob Bruehl said. “It was a tough loss, but we are moving on to the next.”

They finished non-district play with a 1-5-3 record, and played several top 10 state ranked teams that should have them ready to go for district.

On Jan. 8, the Mustangs played the Plano East Panthers who are currently ranked first in the state. They kept the game close and were down 3-2 with just 5 minutes left, but unfortunately just fell short.

They also fell just short against another top 10 opponent, the Grapevine Mustangs. The final score was 4-3.

“It was a tough preseason–a lot of good opponents,” senior Jorge Acosta said. “We feel confident and ready to go for district.”

After a great playoff run last year falling short of the state championship, they look to

make an even better run this year.

Last season the boys played 14 district games winning 11 of them. They allowed just only 5 total goals scored on them during district.

The team graduated a large group of seniors last year, so there should be some new leaders for the 2022 season.

“I think we all work together pretty well,” senior Kevin Zevallos said. “There is a bond here that cannot and will not be broken.”
